My ambition is to create furniture of enduring style and presence;  furniture with a quality perhaps best described as personality.
The creation of a piece proceeds in an open ended way, from sketches, to full sized studies, to the actual piece, without a rigid blueprint. Ideas  solidify, the wood has a chance to speak, and unique details arise as the piece grows; features that might have been impossible to predetermine.
Inherent in mastering and employing this way of working is a certain pride in being part of a lineage of fine craftsmen. I work much as my predecessors did; with well honed hand tools and simple machines; maintaining a close relationship to my materials.
The feel and smell and weight of  wood comforts me. I approach each project with a nod to romantic notions mixed with a practical sensibility, perhaps making the truest use of my time and materials.
I hope that the result of my labors is unique, yet recognizable; something to be rediscovered continuously; furniture which appreciates in emotional and aesthetic value.
