The creation of a piece proceeds in an open ended way, from sketches,
to full sized studies, to the actual piece, without a rigid blueprint.
Ideas solidify, the wood has a chance to speak, and unique details
arise as the piece grows; features that might have been impossible
to predetermine.
Inherent in mastering and employing this way of working is a certain
pride in being part of a lineage of fine craftsmen. I work much
as my predecessors did; with well honed hand tools and simple machines;
maintaining a close relationship to my materials.
The feel and smell and weight of wood comforts me. I approach
each project with a nod to romantic notions mixed with a practical
sensibility, perhaps making the truest use of my time and materials.
I hope that the result of my labors is unique, yet recognizable;
something to be rediscovered continuously; furniture which appreciates
in emotional and aesthetic value.

BIOGRAPHY
I attended College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program from
1991-1993 and since 2002 have been teaching at the program. I maintain
a woodworking shop in Fort Bragg, CA building furniture speculatively
and on commission. My work has been featured in Home Furniture,
Fine Woodworking, and Woodwork magazines, and is represented in
galleries across the country.
